Duties and functions:
Scientific support in research and teaching in the field of Non-European and Global History; administrative functions, independent research including the writing of a PhD; after the 3rd year of employment 2 hours of teaching are required. Participation in the research project “Appraising Risk, Past and Present: Interrogating Historical Data to Enhance Understanding of Environmental Crises in the Indian Ocean World”.

The successful candidate should possess a historical focus on the history of science, technology, and knowledge transfer across the overland or maritime silk roads (focus China) or in cross-cultural environmental history of China and/or adjacent regions (including the Asia-Pacific), preferably between c. 500 and 1500.
Applications from candidates with a respective focus on cross-cultural relations and historical interaction between China, the Indian Ocean, Inner Asia, or the Asia-Pacific are especially welcome. The scholarship provides an excellent opportunity to work in international and interdisciplinary network of scholars working on various aspects of Asian connections and interaction, environmental and technological history.
