Associate Professor / Assistant Professor, Department of Visual Studies, (Post Ref.: 19/12/W)

The Department of Visual Studies (VS) offers a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree programme centred on three core subjects: Aesthetics, Art History, and Film Studies. Courses in these theoretical/historical areas are supplemented with studio courses, internships, service-learning opportunities and other co-curricular activities. We have about 30 undergraduate majors per academic year and a small number of M.Phil. and Ph.D. students. To facilitate our programme development and other new initiatives, the VS Department invites applications for the tenure-track position of assistant/associate professor of Art History. The successful candidate will take up a concurrent appointment as the M.A. programme director to offer high-quality teaching in Art History and Curatorial Studies, generate innovative research, supervise research and curatorial projects, and to handle academic administration. General Requirements

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in Art History or a relevant discipline and have substantial teaching and research experience in at least one of the following areas: Western art, Asian art, Museum Studies, or Curatorial Studies. Lingnan University is fully committed to the pursuit of excellence in both teaching and research. Candidates are required to provide information on their research records and evidence of high-quality teaching. Applicants who have engaged in important curatorial projects or possessed related professional experience in museum work are of particular interest.

The successful candidate who has substantial experience (normally at least six years full-time employment in academia) and strong track records of teaching, research and curatorial projects will be appointed as Associate Professor.

Appointment

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits, mandatory provident fund, gratuity, housing benefits, and incoming passage and baggage allowance for the eligible appointee.

Appointment will normally be made on an initial contract of three years, which, subject to review and mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation.
