The University is seeking an exceptional scholar in Chinese history to fill the Stanley Ho University Lectureship.  The University Lecturer will be a member of both the University and the College community. She or he will be part of a lively and intellectually stimulating research community which performs to the highest international levels in research and publications, and will have access to the excellent research facilities which Oxford offers.

The University Lecturer will be required to conduct research in Chinese history, to give lectures, classes and tutorials and to organise teaching in this subject, to supervise, support and examine students at all levels, and to play a part in the administrative work of the Faculty of Oriental Studies and of Pembroke College.

The successful candidate must hold, by the start of the appointment, a doctorate in a related field; have specialist expertise in one or more aspects of Chinese history; demonstrate competence to teach Chinese history at undergraduate and graduate levels; demonstrate a sufficient command of the Chinese language to carry out research using primary sources in the original language, and a commitment to carrying out and publishing research of the highest calibre in one or more areas of Chinese history; have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills; demonstrate a commitment to supporting students academically and pastorally in the Faculty and College contexts; and be able and ready to co-operate in Faculty and College affairs, including undertaking administration.

In addition to the advertised salary, as a Tutorial Fellow of Pembroke College the Lecturer will be entitled to benefits including a housing allowance of £7,500 p.a., or accommodation in the College; free meals at certain times; membership of a private healthcare plan; and an entertainment allowance of £220 p.a.
