Deadline: 10th Jan 2015

The School of Pacific and Asian Studies (SPAS) at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM) welcomes papers, performances, and panel proposals for its 26 th annual graduate student conference. The conference will be held at the Center for Korean Studies on the UHM campus in Honolulu, HI on March 18-20, 2015. The theme this year is “AGAINST THE CURRENT: TRANSFORMING PERSPECTIVES IN ASIA.”

As this year’s theme indicates, we are interested in accepting papers, performances, and panel proposals that continue, change, and/or contest disciplinary and regional approaches to the study of the Asia/Pacific. With this goal in mind, we also encourage those with a background in the arts to apply with performance or paper proposals.
We are especially looking for papers that:

  • Involve any original research in all areas of Asia and Asian studies
  • Incorporate interdisciplinary methods and frameworks
  • Engage comparative studies or transnationalism
  • Explore new and emerging trends in Asian Studies
  • Present Asian performance practices

We are pleased to announce this year’s speaker is Dr. Rhacel Parrenas, Professor of Sociology and Gender Studies and Chair of the Department of Sociology at the University of Southern California. Please complete the application form according to the listed guidelines and instructions, and submit it by JANUARY 10, 2015. The form may be accessed HERE.
