Vacant Position: University Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature and Culture

The University of Cambridge is seeking to appoint a University Lecturer in Modern and Contemporary Chinese Literature and Culture in the Department of East Asian Studies, to begin on 1 October 2016. This appointment is tenure-track, subject to an initial probationary period.

The lecturer will be required to deliver lectures, hold classes and give seminars in modern and contemporary China at all levels, and to supervise graduate and undergraduate dissertations. Preference will be given to candidates whose work has a primary focus on contemporary China in the fields of literature, film, the arts and visual culture. Applicants should have an excellent publication record and, preferably, experience in teaching in higher education. Candidates should be able and willing to teach on survey courses that straddle pre-modern, modern and contemporary China. The appointee is to have a Ph.D. in hand at the time of appointment. The ability to read and speak Chinese is essential as is native or near-native fluency in English.
