Description of the position
Due to the increasing interest in Chinese language, culture and society among European students, the Chinese subject at Högskolan Dalarna is rapidly expanding. We are now seeking a Senior Lecturer in Chinese for a one-year full time post. The post is temporary, from 1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012, with the possibility of extension beyond that date. The post is based in Falun, Sweden.
Duties
Responsibilities for this post include teaching, development, and planning of language proficiency courses at the introductory level, and advanced courses in one of the following scholarly fields: literature, translation, culture, language education, and linguistics, etc. A significant portion of the teaching consists of distance teaching, using modern distance-learning technology. Other responsibilities include participation in the development and administration of the subject area as a whole.
Qualifications: Senior Lecturer
The required qualifications for appointment as a Senior Lecturer are:
1. A doctorate or corresponding academic qualifications, or other professional skills that are of value with regard to the subject concerned and the duties that the position will involve,
2. Pedagogical training or equivalent experience,
3. Demonstrated teaching ability.
Equal consideration shall be given to assessing the teaching skills as to the assessment of the other circumstances providing the qualification grounds.
Criteria
Hiring criteria include the amount of expertise in the areas specified in the qualifications for the post, as well as administrative and other skills relevant to the duties described for the post. In addition, the applicant’s skills at developing and leading cooperation with fellow staff members and the local community, as well as keeping informed about research and development in the subject area will be taken into account.
Pedagogical expertise will be considered more important than scientific expertise for this appointment of a Senior Lecturer. National goals regarding the job market, equality, and society will also be taken into consideration.
Additional Qualifications
Applicants must hold a higher academic degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) within the subject area, and have documented experience in teaching Chinese at the university level. Since the staff at the university’s language department work closely together, the ability to work well with others is a prerequisite for this position. Experience with course development and experience with internet-based learning is also of merit.
