King’s College London wishes to appoint as Director of the Lau China Institute an outstanding China scholar with excellent leadership ability and an impressive track record in research, teaching, and influencing the international academic, policy and business communities as these relate to China’s global role in the twenty-first century.
Candidates will have the vision and the drive to boost the China Institute’s development as a world-renowned centre for China-focussed expertise, and to contribute actively to King’s International Strategy, supporting relevant university level projects and engaging with China-focussed work across the Arts and Sciences and Health faculties. The academic field for the appointment is open; themes of particular interest are China and global politics, China and global health, comparative governance, entrepreneurship and management, the state, including its legal, organisational and political aspects, urbanisation, and economic and social change in China. The appointment will be made at Reader or Professor level, and the appointee will benefit from alignment with an academic unit within King’s appropriate to her or his field of research.
A proven track record in research income generation and PhD supervision will be an advantage, and a strong commitment to delivering world class teaching and optimising the student experience is essential. The appointee will have overall responsibility for management of faculty, budget-holding and other related roles, and must be accomplished in motivating and supporting academic and professional staff. It is expected that the appointee will have valuable links with relevant institutions and/or government agencies in China, and will work with the Media team at King’s as an expert commentator on contemporary China for high quality outlets in the UK and beyond.

Competitive salary (Senior Management), to be settled by negotiation based on relevant qualifications and experience, starting from £50,200 plus £2,323 London Allowance.
