The Collaborative Research Center 1095 Discourses of Weakness and Resource Regimes at Goethe-­‐University, Frankfurt am Main is looking for candidates to fill two vacancies as Researchers (PhD. Candidates) (E13 TV-­‐G-­‐U, 65%-­‐parttime)

 The positions are temporary posts and will terminate until 31. December 2018. The Collaborative Research Center 1095 Discourses of Weakness and Resource Regimes at the Goethe-­‐University, Frankfurt am Main, employs a transepochal and comparative approach in order to deal with the question of how discourses of weakness had an impact on the handling of resources. These discourses can be observed in the history of all cultures at all times. Changes in handling of resources, which might be tangible or intangible in nature, constitute a   special and important aspect of historical transformation, which will be addressed in collaborative research by historians, historians of science, anthropologists, philosophers, legal historians and sinologists. The successful candidates will work within the framework of the research project “Ideas of national weakness in late 19th and early 20th century China” and will contribute to the organisation of the project.

Eligibility

We expect a MA-­‐degree in sinology or area studies with a focus on Chinese history. Very good knowledge of modern and classical Chinese is required. Experience In doing research in China and familiarity with Chinese libraries. Is expected. Applications including the relevant documents should be directed until 18.
