The SOAS China Institute is seeking to appoint one suitably qualified individual as Postdoctoral Researcher to work on a European Research Council funded project entitled ‘Doing Intimacy: A Multi-sited Ethnography of Modern Chinese Family Life’, led by the Principal Investigator, Dr Jieyu Liu. The project is ethnographic in focus and aims to provide the first comprehensive study of practices of intimacy in Chinese families, their intertwining with gender and intergenerational dynamics, and interrelations with local and global change.
You will have a PhD in Sociology / Social Anthropology or a cognate discipline, with knowledge in topics such as family, men and masculinity, gender and sexuality. Ethnographic fieldwork experience in North China (i.e Shaanxi province or Shandong province) and competence in local dialects are essential.
The post will be based in London however the project will involve periods of overseas fieldwork in China.
Salary: £34,957 per annum inclusive of London allowance
Fixed term contract from 01 March 2017 to 31 May 2018
