In Memoriam: Raoul David Findeisen (17 May 1958 – 4 November 2017)

The sinological community has lost a fine scholar and colleague: on 4 November 2017, Raoul David Findeisen passed away at the age of 58. He was born in Geneva, Switzerland and studied sinology, Japanese studies, Roman languages and literature, and philosophy and comparative philosophy in Berlin, Taipei, Beijing, and Bonn. He worked at the University of Zürich from 1988 until 1999, and at the university of Bochum from 1999 to 2009. In 2009 he moved to the Comenius University in Bratislava. Raoul David Findeisen is primarily known as a specialist in Lu Xun studies, but he also did research into the writings of Guo Moruo, Chinese literary theory and intercultural encounters between China and Europe.
