The Second International Conference of the Spanish Association for East Asian Studies “East Asian Studies during the Era of Connectivity”

Madrid, Spain
27-29th May 2020
Deadline: 29th Nov 2019

We are glad to announce the 2nd International Conference of the Spanish Association for East Asian Studies to be held at the Autonomous University of Madrid during 27th to 29th May 2020. This conference will be organized under the broader theme of “East Asian Studies in the Era of Connectivity,” to take critical account of the increasing number of initiatives that are being promoted both within East Asia as well as Europe to strengthen political, economic, educational and cultural links across the Eurasian continent.

Between 2006 and 2016, Spanish Fora on Asia-Pacific Research were held on five occasions. After the foundation of the Spanish Association for East Asian Studies in 2016 and the celebration of its First International Conference in 2018, East Asian Studies are emerging as a vigorous research area within the wider Spanish academic context. This is also due to an ever-growing number of Spanish graduates from East Asian Studies degrees.

In this context the AEEAO is glad to announce the celebration of its second international conference which hopes to channel and disseminate research activities related to East Asian Studies in Spain. This conference intents to offer a space for encounter and exchange within which researchers share the results of their research. The Organizing Committee invites all researchers working on this geographic area to present abstracts (for panels or individual papers) on any topic that falls within the following research areas related to the main conference theme:

  • Science
  • History
  • History of Art and Visual Culture
  • Language and Translation
  • Literature
  • Philosophy and Schools of Thought
  • Politics and Economics
  • Sociology and Anthropology

Both the proposals for panels or individual papers should be written in Spanish or English. The proposals should include title, author(s), objectives, methodology, obtained or expected results, bibliography. Proposals should be sent by 29th November 2019 to the Organizing Committee through the platform of the event at Please follow the instructions in order to submit for panel and individual paper proposals. All proposals will be evaluated blindly by experts of the research area. Presentations will have a duration of 15 minutes. Conference languages are Spanish or English.

Please first select the main discipline where to fit your proposal. Proposals for panels should include a general introduction (300-500 worlds, not counting bibliography), with an abstract for each paper (300 words). Each panel consists of at least four presentations, and the proposal should state clearly the names of all participants and their contributions in the online registration form.

Proposals for individual papers should include an abstract of 300 -500 words and should clearly state the research area of the proposed presentation.
