The Centre for East Asian Studies at the University of Heidelberg is seeking to fill the position of a Chinese Language Lecturer
100% starting as soon as possible. The position is initially limited until 30th of September 2029.
Your tasks: The focus of the position is on teaching spoken and written Chinese (traditional and simplified characters), including the use of multimedia teaching methods. We are seeking an individual who is interested in contributing to the design of new multimedia teaching formats and the development of language teaching materials and tools. Teaching experience in the didactics of Chinese as a foreign language (as part of the teacher training programme in Chinese Studies) and teaching experience in Chinese dialects (e.g. Taiwanese and Cantonese) is also desirable. Experience with third-party funding in the field of language teaching and relevant publications in this area are welcomed.
Your profile: The ideal candidate will hold at least an M.A. degree in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language or in a relevant area and has substantial experience in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. The candidate needs to be fluent in German and Chinese (near native) with confidence in the use of traditional and simplified Chinese characters. A fair knowledge of English is expected. Translation skills (Chinese-German, German-Chinese) are also required. The candidate should demonstrate an active
interest in and commitment to teaching (BA and Master’s as well as in the teaching degree programme in Chinese/Sinology) and be willing to work in an international team with native speakers from the PRC and Taiwan. Active participation in the institute’s tasks and activities is expected.

The position can, by principle, also be filled part-time. Remuneration is according to TV-L E 13 pay range.
