At the Faculty of Philological and Cultural Studies of the University of Vienna the position of a

University Professor of China Studies

(full time, permanent position) is to be filled.

As specified in the University`s Development Plan, the position is to be linked to the research area “global cultures and identities”.

China Studies at the University of Vienna are focused on current affairs. Based on a solid cultural and historical foundation, the focus in research and teaching is mainly on politics and society of China in the 20th and 21st century. The successful candidate should inter alia show a strong record of high-quality publications and competitive research grants in one or more of the following areas (alphabetic order, no expression of priorities):

· Domestic politics and public administration

· Environmental policy

· History after 1911

· Literature of the 20th and 21st century

· Media and the internet

· Political communication

· Political economy

· Social change

· State-society relations

· Urbanization and migration

A comparative perspective on the PR China, Hong Kong and/or Taiwan is desired.

The successful candidate is expected to teach eight hours per semester at all levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD), to supervise theses and dissertations, to support young academics and to actively participate in the university’s self-governance.
