Vacant Position: Faculty Positions (rank open) in Transnational Asian History

Duke Kunshan University (DKU) invites applications for a faculty position in pre-18th century transnational Asian history to begin in the academic year 2020-2021. Candidates should have a demonstrated mastery over world historical topics related to China and its neighbors, including research that is transnational, transregional, or transcultural in scope. Special consideration will be given to historians who specialize in one or more of the following subjects: Silk Road and Eurasian history, overseas trade and exchange, religious and/or artistic interactions, and/or diplomacy and war. Candidates will be expected to teach core courses on pre-18th century Chinese history, a course on “China and the Silk Road” and other courses on China’s historical interface with the outside world.

This position is open with regard to rank including tenured, tenure track and non-tenure track. Mid-career and senior faculty are especially encouraged to apply. In order to meet Chinese visa requirements, prior to the position start date international (non-Chinese) candidates must have worked full-time for at least two years (including post-doctoral work) after receiving their Bachelor’s degree.

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in an appropriate field.
