Call For Papers: First Annual Hawai‘i International Conference on Chinese Studies

The Center for Chinese Studies (CCS) at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa is launching and organizing the first Hawai‘i International Conference on Chinese Studies (HICCS). This annual conference will provide a venue for scholars and educators in Chinese Studies to discuss the future directions of research on China and Chinese-speaking communities throughout the world. The interdisciplinary atmosphere will give scholars and advanced graduate students an international forum on the pedagogical challenges and intellectual complexities of Chinese cultures worldwide.

TOPICS: Papers can address one or more of the following fields of Chinese Studies:

Anthropology, Art, Business, Cultural Studies, Comparative Literature, Dance, Economics, Education, Environmental Studies, Film Studies, Gender Studies, Health Sciences, History, Language Pedagogy, Law, Linguistics, Literature, Medicine, Music, Philosophy, Religion, Sociology, Theater, Translation Studies, etc.

REGISTRATION FEES:
$250 for registrations paid before September 15, 2019
$300 between September 16 and December 1, 2019
$350 thereafter

Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis and space is limited.

PAPER SUBMISSION PROCEDURE: Participants will submit title and abstract when submitting a proposal. Chinese and English papers are allowed. Please visit one of the

ACCOMMODATIONS:
– Limited campus housing is available for the conference at the Lincoln Hall and Hale Manoa, which are part of the East-West Center (EWC). These rooms offer a very affordable way to stay in Honolulu ($33–77 per night). You are encouraged to contact EWC as early as possible to reserve your room. Please email the EWC and let them know that you will be attending the “Hawaii International Conference on Chinese Studies”.
