The Department of Chinese Language and Literature is one of the founding academic units of the Faculty of Arts at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Since its establishment in 1963, the Department has made pivotal contributions to the University’s core mission of combining tradition with modernity and bringing together China and the West. It is now recognized as one of the most important departments for the study of Chinese language and literature in Asia and the world. Our four main areas for research and teaching are Chinese linguistics, ancient Chinese texts, classical Chinese literature and modern Chinese literature.
