International Summer School on Ethnic Conflict and Terrorism in Asia

Project CHINET and the Department of Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts, Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic, would like to invite you to its summer school, titled: “Ethnic Conflict and Terrorism in Asia.” This one-week intensive course will bring together scholars and students of Asian Studies, Political Science and other related fields, to learn about and discuss possible future developments in Asia with a focus on ethnic conflict, terrorism threat and regional security.

    16 sessions/lectures (90 minutes each)
    Wednesday afternoon guided city tour

    Prof. Aziz Burkhanov (Nazarbayev University, Kazakhstan)
    Mgr. Ondřej Klimeš, Ph.D. (Oriental Institute, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic)
    Liesbeth van der Heide (International Centre for Counter-Terrorism – The Hague, Leiden University)

How to apply:

Please fill in the registration form no later than June 1, 2015. Participants selected will be informed by June 8, 2015.

Evaluation methods:

Student will be asked to give a presentation in front of the class (15-30 min) closely related to topics discussed during the course. Students may form groups of 3-4 people for this purpose but should take care to make each participant’s responsibility for his or her part of the presentation transparent. Successful participants will obtain certificate of participation.

Credits:

This summer school is accredited by the Department of Asian Studies, Faculty of Arts Palacký University Olomouc and students can receive four credits for successful participation. However, these credits are not ECTS Credits. Students are usually able to obtain credits from their home institution and we will be happy to assist you in any way we can, however please be aware that the decision to award credits rests with your home institution.

Tuition fee:

Tuition for the whole week is free of charge. Participants will however need to cover all their personal costs, including transportation, accommodation, visa, trips etc.

Travel expenses and accommodation:

We are not able to cover your accommodation and travel expenses. However, we can assist you by providing a list of recommended accommodation in various price categories.
