Upcoming Conference: Within and without “China”: Changing identities between collective and individual self

The SOAS Graduate Conference is a student-led one-day event aiming to provide graduate students with an opportunity to gain conference experience, engaging them in a multifaceted debate upon China-related topics.

This year theme, Within and without “China”: changing identities between collective and individual self, poses as its aims to build a diachronic and synchronic dialogue on how the idea of identity in China has been reshaped by different political, historical, social, ideological and cultural factors affecting China from within and without.

The conference comprises of four panels tackling the topic from a variety of perspectives, including new forms of artistic expressions, collectivism vs individualism, rethinking gender and class, multiculturalism, minorities and literature.

The conference is divided into two periods: a morning session and an afternoon one. The conference is delighted to announce that Professor Dibyesh Anand (Westminster University) and Dr Pamela Hunt (Oxford University) will attend the conference as key note speakers.
